New Client: Rejuvenation – commercial photography update

    July 31, 2013 | Posted By: | commercial photography · product photography |

I’m really excited to talk about Rejuvenation. If you haven’t heard of them you probably will soon enough. Rejuvenation began in 1977 in an old converted saloon in North Portland. What began as an architectural salvage shop eventually gave way to rebuilding vintage fixtures as demand grew. They were bought by Williams Sonoma in 2011 and have since become the countries largest manufacturer of authentic reproduction lighting and housewares. If you’ve never been in one of their stores you should seek one out. The quality of their products is unmatched and amazingly original. Even the most simple items are incredibly beautiful. What’s most exciting, is that they are equally obsessed with the quality of their photography as they are the product itself. As a photographer this is incredibly exciting. Take a few minutes to poke around their site and you’ll see what I mean. From the simplest of shades to the most intricate of fixtures every image is meticulously shot, scrutinized and edited. Its amazing to see a company require this level of excellence in everything they do.

These highly technical projects that i’m always excited to be a part of. Every time I get a chance to work with them my photography improves. This is the pinnacle of studio product photography and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of it. Everyone involved are the best in their fields and its really great to work next to them.

    Visit the site here.

Here’s a few screen grabs for a quick look. Really I would skip these though and just take a look around the site. You won’t be dissapointed.

New Client: Polo Ralph Lauren – commercial photography update

This post is long overdue. I actually started shooting Polo nearly a year ago. This is an ongoing client although I don’t get a chance to shoot for them as often as I used to. We shot all the children and infant/layette laydown photography for their website. You can take a look at the work here. Just click thru all the individual categories to see the photography. (note: my photography is not the on figure photography just the laydowns – just want to make sure i mention that).

This was my first really big name for commercial photography and will always have a great deal of gratitude for everyone that brought me on board. Its opened alot of doors and i’ll always have be incredibly thankful.

Ok, here’s some samples of work. I can’t say for certain who shot what since we have a few teams working on this project at all times but at least you can see what we’re up to.

  • New Client: Target – commercial photography update

Ok, many of the following posts im labeling as new client updates even though many of them i’ve been shooting for quite some time now. Thats the problem with only updated your blog once a year. Ugghh…

Anyway, very happy to say that my work has finally been showing up in Target stores. I’m primarily photographing clothing/fashion laydowns but also photograph a mix of product and lifestyle work. The work is for Target Canada’s in store and online weekly flyers. I love working with the entire target team, this is a huge collaboration of incredibly talented people and I can honestly say i really enjoy every one of them. Sometimes shooting in a high production environment can be really tedious and you don’t often end the day feeling like you created anything so its really refreshing to work with a team determined to keep it fresh and fun with a focus on quality. Ive attached a few random pages so you can take a look at what we’ve been up to.

So if you happen to stop by a Target Canada store, grab the flyer as you walk in.

Been a busy busy year for commercial photography!

    July 31, 2013 | Posted By: | commercial photography |

Well im very happy to say this is the first real day off I’ve had in over a year. I’ve been able to take some time off for some travel/holidays but this is the first i’ve had to sit down and get some things updated on the site. I’ve been adding some big names to my book and am very excited to finally be able to share them. I have very little in they way of fashion/editorial work which is new but been an amazing year for some high visibility commercial photography. Been shooting a ton of product photography and clothing laydowns which has been very different but im loving it.

I’m hoping to be able to share all future developments in a much more timely manner. I managed to get the blog linked up to the wordpress mobile app so hopefully it will be a much easier way to post on the fly ( and possibly while things are happening). Might even be able to share some behind the scenes information, lighting setups, project descriptions etc. Who knows whats to come. Ok, take a look at the following posts to see what i’ve been up to.

Fashion Photography – Rever Magazine summer accessory editorial

    July 19, 2012 | Posted By: | fashion photography |

    Fashion Photography

Here’s an expanded look at an summer accessory editorial shot for Rever Magazine.   The fashion photography accompanied an article so many didn’t make it into the print issue  but we felt they were too good not to show.  The team put so much work into this one, we had over 100 pieces of jewelry pulled alone.   Special thanks to Anne Bocci Boutique for many of these amazing pieces.

Commercial Photography Set Portland // Nike Olympic Popup Launch

    July 13, 2012 | Posted By: | commercial photography |

Commercial Photography Set Portland // Nike Olympic Popup Launch

I got a call a few weeks back from Kristi over at Set asking me to shoot the unveiling of a interactive pop up that will be traveling around to all the Nike stores around the country leading up to the Olympic Games. For those of you not familiar with Set you should head over to their site and take a look around, between their amazing in-house team and collaborations they’re creating some amazing visual campaigns in the retail market, take a look here.

I had a great time shooting the launch. The pop up is visually stunning and as you can see in the pictures its a heart-racing adrenaline rush which comes as no surprise, it is after all a Nike collaboration intended to build excitement for the Summer Olympics. If you get a chance to see this interactive display in person, make sure you wear some loose clothes and are ready for a workout. The popup is a three way head to head to head competition over three events, the vertical leap, jump rope and sprint. The visually stunning displays keep you updated on your progress, and for the highly competitive types, your neighbors progress. Most impressive, the computer analyzes not sure the number of jumps in the jump rope compettion for instance it tracks the explosiveness, speed, height of jumps etc. when figuring your score, all tracked by a computer insert in the specially made shoes (which will be commercially available at the start of the Olympic games). Its a beautiful display thats highly addictive and alot of fun. Well done to all involved with this one.

    On to the pics.

Editorial Wedding Photography – Four part summer wedding editorial preview

    May 24, 2012 | Posted By: | beauty photography · commercial photography |

Thought i’d post a preview of a summer wedding editorial since there hasn’t been much activity lately.   Despite the lull we’re hard at work on a number of new projects and quite a few editorials and commercial projects coming out very soon.   Just didn’t want you thinking that I’ve been lounging around in the cold rainy Portland spring weather.

So here’s a quick peak at part one of the four part editorial.   I of course will keep you posted when it comes out.

  • Commercial photography session with Fashion Designer Seth Aaron

    April 25, 2012 | Posted By: | commercial photography |

Got a call during Portland Fashion week last fall to shoot some studio portraits of Fashion Designer and Project Runway winner Seth Aaron. This was the first chance I had to work with Greg Sande, owner of Sienna Creative Works who handles the Earthtec / Seth Aaron design/marketing. If you have a minute head over and take a look at the work Greg and his team are doing. Not only are they amazing to work with but they produce an incredible product.

Alrigh back to the task at hand, Seth, Greg and team were just a few days from debuting the Seth Aaron collection for Sustainable clothing retailer Earthtec Clothing. You can head over to Seth’s site and take a look at the collection here.

We managed to get into the studio for a hour, which was about all he could spare with his busy schedule. We had a great session, they really wanted to get some good candid shots that really showed his personality and his newly shaved head. I love the way these turned out, everyone was very please. Going to be posting more images soon but here’s a few shots to tide you over.

Fashion photography editorial – Kristi @ Option Model Portland

This is a long long overdue post from a fashion editorial shoot we last summer at one of my favorite spots along the Oregon Coast. There’s an amazing crescent shaped section of beach with cliffs rising up in three directions. Just rock, sand and water everywhere you turn. Its a favorite spot for the local surfers and probably more than an occasional photographer. Kristi booked this one as an editorial test shoot which I always have very high expectations from despite the limited budget and crew. I prefer to shoot agency tests this way, with a wardrobe stylist and cohesive concept, that way not only does the model get quality images for her book we’re able to submit for publication which is an added benefit for all. And lets face it, it makes it much more exciting. Kate Troedsson did an amazing job with wardrobe styling on this one. The DVF dress is still one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever shot. Anyway, thanks to kate for putting so much effort into this one, you really went above and beyond. Thanks also to amazing makeup artist Terri Lodge and a production assist from Chelsea Chambers.

fashion photography editorial – dominique @ option model portland

Every once in awhile a brand new model walks in the door and your enthusiasm for the industry elevates to another level. Dominique is one of those girls. I had run in to Option one afternoon and immediately upon stopping by Kit and Nina start raving about a new girl they found and spent the next 15 minutes in an enthusiastic rant about the expectations everyone had for Dominique. I was dubious but optimistic. What can I say, they were so right and it served as a stark reminder as to how amazing they are at what they do. Anyway, we planned a quick studio session just to get a couple shots they could use to start booking her but within five minutes of shooting I was already planning this shoot in my head. Looking back I would have done things differently on this one and actually hope we get a chance to do this one right but, all in all, im very happy with the final images. There are a few that are actually some of my favorites. I know I say that alot, and you must be thinking my favorites folder is quite enormous, but i couldn’t be more truthful in this case. You know thinking about it, my favorites folder is quite large and that’s pretty exciting. I look at it as a sign that i’m working hard and improving every shoot which ultimately is all I strive for. Enough of that, on to the images.

  • Fashion photography editorial – Kate @ Major Models Paris

    April 13, 2012 | Posted By: | fashion photography |

I posted a beauty editorial shoot I did with kate from major paris and amazing hair/mu artist Destiny Taylor a few days back. We managed to get into the studio for a couple hours on a dreary day and came up with some beautiful pseudo beauty, very editorial looking images that I absolutely love. You can take a look at that post here. Right before Kate left for her European (working) vacation we teamed up with wardrobe stylist Kate Troedsson and dropped by one of our favorite local boutiques, Anne Bocci Boutique & Gallery, to grab bags of amazing jewelry and headed out for the place I dubbed “the castle without a castle”. Doesn’t make much sense unless you see it and you may not be all that interested to begin with so i digress. Kate is fast becoming one of my favorite models to work with, we always seam to come away with some of my favorite images. Thanks to everyone involved, really enjoyed this one.

Agency Test Photography – Will @ HRI Artists Los Angeles

Agency Test Photography – Will @ Option Models Portland

Last fall we ran a men’s board test rate and had an amazing turnout. We shot with Will for his initial portfolio and just a couple weeks after the shoot he signed with HRI Artists in Los Angeles. Will will be repped by the legendary men’s agent, Spencer Sally. We had a great time with Will despite it being one of the darkest days of the year. I looked out the window the day of the shoot and cringed but at the end of the day the weather actually gave us a really grainy edge which worked really well for this concept. You just never know what you’re going to get, the trick is to make the most of it. Congrats to Will, can’t wait to see what’s in store for you over at HRI.

Editorial Beauty Photography – Cassie M.

I was assisting my friend / model / filmaker Cassie the other day while she was filming a short with local model/actor lana nyman and after the shoot we ran out for a bite. Cassie mentioned she was going to be cutting bangs and I immediately had the idea for this shoot. It was all very spontaneous and very little preperation, we pretty much just ran into the studio to see what we could come up with. Overall im very happy with the outcome, there are some things I would have loved to do differently but when you cut a chunk of hair there’s no going back. Anyway, hope you like them.

Editorial Beauty Photography – Kate @ Major Models Paris

We caught up with Kate while she took a break over the holidays. Kate’s been doing some amazing work in France/Germany for the past year. She recently shot an amazing editorial for Tatler Magazine featuring and amazing Lanvin collection. Can’t seam to find the link at the moment. If I think of it i’ll come back and give you an update, or i guess you could google it. Anyway, back to the task at hand. I absolutely love these images we shot in a very quick studio session. This is the second time I’ve worked with Kate and am always left a little speechless with the final product. Such beautiful hair and makeup by Destiny Taylor. Agency Test Photography // We had another very successful “Back to Basics” agency test day a few weeks back.   We took over a beautiful condo in the Pearl district for a day of Model Portfolio Development.   Here’s a few lifestyle photography images of Adrianne with Option Models Portland.   For anyone interested in booking a session during the next model development day just get in touch.   We usually plan one of these a month and come up with a new concept for each although back to basics is a very popular one so we repeat it often.  We book multiple sessions per day to keep costs to a minimum.  They’re very fast paced and alot of fun.  They’re a great way to update your book quickly at a reasonable price.  Ok, enough salesmanship, on to the images.

We spent a day in studio due to some terrible weather and shot a wide range of portfolio images for new model Courtney at Option Model.
